Excellent sharpness and clarity of the flower. I love the slightly off-center comp in this shot as well. Very well done Sandra!

Thank you so much Aimee!

A beautiful shot, but a little too centered, as my eye is first drawn to the flower and not the reflection. The top part of the photo seems very dark to me, almost distracting, perhaps cropping that part out to bring the eye back to the flower and making it follow the rule of thirds.(The rule of thirds suggests that you divide the image into thirds with imaginary lines both horizontally and vertically, like a tic-tac-toe board, and place the subject at one of the four points where the lines intersect to prevent images from being too static or flat(Quoted from Macro Photography by Alan L. Detrick). Which leads to not placing the subject in the center of an image BUT as rules are sometimes made to be broken you can have a photo take your breath away shot that does center the shot, in fact with many macro or close up nature shots THIS is exactly what it needs.)

I wondered if the dark was right but you're the first person to mention it. I actually made it that way, which (to me) gave it depth. The original is actually as bright and bold as what's on the bottom and it just seemed flat. After reading about your rule of thirds maybe it's the position of the flower that needs to be changed rather than darkening the top. I'll have to go back and play some more. I actually didn't really like the picture but thought it had possibilities as a "learn photoshop" subject. I also darkened the reflection of the flower a little because I thought the flower should be the focus but maybe I'll try making the reflection the focus.

This is why critiques and comments are so important. Thanks! :D

Well, there's nothing wrong with the flower being the focus, that's one of those artist preference things. Maybe lighten it enough to allow for both the flower And the relfection to be the focus. If you want to make a photo less flat sometimes contrast will help or curves(Which is both a photoshop and lightroom tool)which can allow you to lighten highlights or brighter points and darken shadows without darking only one section of the photo. I hope that made sense.

I think making them both bright might work. I tried adjusting the contrast but then I got a blown out flower which ruined everything. I'm not sure how to use curves or levels but I did try and what I got was comical to say the least! I'll search for a tutorial and then try that I think. I'm finding that it's one thing to understand the concept but a whole different thing to get it to work! :D
